Embark on a 4-day, 3-night expedition along the rugged Cordillera del Llorón, where history and adventure intertwine. Follow in the footsteps of Victoriano Lorenzo, experiencing the very paths he once used to move across the mountains during the Thousand Days’ War.
This immersive journey takes you deep into Panama’s wild landscapes—lush jungles, misty mountains, rivers, streams, and waterfalls—surrounded by unique flora, diverse wildlife, and welcoming local communities. Along the way, you’ll discover the Victoriano Lorenzo Trail project and stay at two remote mountain refuges: Los Naranjos and Peña Blanca. Every step offers a blend of nature, culture, and living history, creating a truly unforgettable trekking experience.
Route Itinerary
Day 1: Panama City → Los Naranjos Mountain Refuge
Depart from Panama City at 6:00 AM for a scenic 2-hour drive to Majara (Capira), where the trek begins. From there, hike across the Cordillera del Llorón through forests, plains, and steep climbs, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
After 5–6 hours of trekking, arrive at Los Naranjos Refuge. Enjoy a warm local coffee, a hearty dinner, and a well-earned rest.

Day 2: Los Naranjos Refuge → La Gloria Community
Start early at 5:30 AM with a light coffee before heading into a stunning cloud forest ecosystem filled with tropical plants and a unique mountain microclimate.
Pass through rural communities like Lagunita and Manglarito before reaching La Gloria. Upon arrival, visit the spectacular 80-meter La Gloria waterfall.
Overnight stay in hammocks with mosquito nets. Dinner and rest surrounded by nature.

Day 3: La Gloria → Peña Blanca Ecological Refuge
After breakfast, continue your journey toward Peña Blanca, the final mountain destination. This 3–4 hour trek features incredible scenery, waterfalls, rivers, and small villages such as Bajo Bonito.
This region is part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, making it a key habitat for migratory species and rich biodiversity.
Arrive at Peña Blanca Refuge and unwind with hot coffee, tea, or chocolate. Enjoy a delicious dinner and take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Ciri Grande River. Overnight stay at the refuge.

Wake up at 6:00 AM, pack your gear, and take a short 35-minute walk to meet your return transport. Arrival in Panama City is expected around 1:00 PM.
